A full-time postdoctoral fellow position is available in Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute at the
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Research in the laboratory focuses on
the roles of noncoding RNAs (miRNA, lincRNA and mRNA 3ʼUTR) in cardiac system and
cardiovascular disease. We discovered a new type of stress-responsive, protein-directed, 3ʼUTRmediated human RNA switch (Ray, PS,et al.Nature2008 457: 915-919;Plos Biology2013 11:
e1001635) which play important roles in gene regulation and also participate in human diseases,
such as myocardial infarction and cancers. Intriguingly, some of these RNA switches involve the
interplay between miRNA and RNA-binding protein (Jafarifar, F,et al.EMBO Journal2011 30:
1324-1334). We also identified a novel mRNA processing mechanism that expands human
proteome at the posttranscriptional level (Cell2012 149: 88-100). This position represents an
opportunity to join a top-rated biomedical research campus. We are looking for candidates with
experiences or interest in the following areas: cardiovascular disease (e.g., cardiac hypertrophy
and heart failure), angiogenesis, gene regulation (transcriptional or posttranscriptional regulation),
miRNA and lincRNA, and bioinformatics on high-throughput next generation sequencing.

Qualification: Ph.D. degree, with advanced training in biochemistry, molecular and cellular
biology, animal genetics, or computational biology. Experience with animal models is preferred.
